How I became a runner

Growing up in Kearny, NJ, I was always involved in various sports. But, like most kids in my neighborhood, my first love was soccer.  Playing on competitive travel teams all the way through high school and beyond I always looked at running as a punishment.

It wasn’t until long after my playing days were over that I first discovered my love of running.  As life moved along and bills and work came, I found himself with less and less time to exercise and inevitably fell out of shape.  In 2006, while my wife was pregnant with our son Nathaniel, I decided it was time to start getting serious about my health and fitness again.

What started off as a plan to try and run a 5k saw me running a marathon by 2007. Thirteen years later those first few steps have turned into a lifelong passion of running that has seen me continually pushing my body and mind to their limits by competing in Ultramarathons.

Although I still run road races, I have primarily focused on trail running the past two years.  I currently live and train with my wife Danielle and two children in Hilton Head, SC.  Barring any more cancellations due to the pandemic I will be running the Yeti 100 in September and The Georgia Death Race in November.
